American bakeries range from wholesale operations that supply restaurants to neighborhood shops that sell bread, pastries, cookies and cakes over the counter, and many of them also pour coffee. Bagel shops boil and bake on site and sell out of favorite flavors by late morning; donut shops open before dawn and are often family-run; patisseries and cake studios take custom orders for weddings and birthdays and usually need one to two weeks' notice. Ice cream parlors, gelato shops and frozen yogurt bars are seasonal in the northern states and year-round in the South and on the West Coast. Prices are posted per item, by the dozen or by the pound, and most shops now take cards and mobile payment.

Asheville is in North Carolina, in the Southeast, where summers are long, hot and humid, winters are mild, and afternoon thunderstorms and the hurricane season from June to November can change plans at short notice. Getting around Asheville is easiest by car; street parking is metered in busy downtown areas, and most suburban businesses have their own lot. Ride-share apps such as Uber and Lyft operate across North Carolina's larger cities, and public transit varies from extensive to minimal.

Edit. The cookies were not gluten-free. They were labeled "gluten-friendly." I did not read the label until after i became ill from eating 1/2 of a cookie. It was delicious, but not safe for gluten sensitive stomachs. I have been in search of good gluten-free baked goods for 8 years. Mary's Mountain Cookies nail it! The BEST gluten free cookies I've ever purchased! I will be back!

I hate leaving negative reviews, but this experience was disappointing. I brought my grandma in for what I hoped would be a special treat, and we purchased two cookies. At nearly $4 per cookie, we expected fresh, high-quality baked goods and a pleasant customer experience. Unfortunately, that wasnβt what we received on Monday 6/22/26. Some cookies tasted fresh, but the others were noticeably dry and stale. The cookies were simply placed in a paper bag, and the customer service felt rushed and impersonal by the woman at the counter. Instead of feeling welcomed, the interaction felt more like a fast-food transaction than a premium bakery experience. Another turnoff was being prompted for a tip on the payment screen after already paying premium prices for the cookies. While tipping is always a personal choice, it felt out of place given the overall experience and level of service. What made this especially disappointing was that I had chosen this bakery because I wanted to do something special with my grandma. We both left feeling let down. For the price, we expected fresh baked goods, warm customer service, and an experience that felt worth the cost. Instead, we felt like we coul

The cookies were massive. We ordered one molasses and one snickerdoodle cookie. They were firmer than expected, not soft and chewy. They were fresh so my guess is they were left in the oven too long. The flavors were good.

Deal and a half!! We stopped in when there was a special on day old bags. We ate the chocolate chip cookie immediately and it was awesome! The counter person was very helpful in helping us choose bags and the cookie scooper was so fun to talk to also. Highly recommend!

YUM!! My second stop at Maryβs Mountain Cookies was even better than my first. Plus!! They are dog friendly! We were going for our weekly walk downtown when we decided to stop in and get one cookie to split. My boyfriend lovingly let me decide, so I went my tried and true flavor profile: biscoff. I took photos and sent them to my family and got a list of cookie demands to bring back with me to Charlotte so ended up making another stop for the buy 6 get an additional 2 free deal. These cookies are so fresh and soft, but with a good bit of crunch. The toppings are creative and decadent. The biscoff is so good. And they are huge! Definitely at least 2-3 servings per cookie. They were packaged up nicely and the staff was pleasant. Next time, Iβll treat myself to an ice cream cookie sandwich.
